 2001 INFO

05 30 : Lots of new cds scheduled for ripping. Watch this space for new releases.
Some stuff I've been busy with (music-wise) that should be noted on this page is marked on my blog.
More specifically, the likes of which are on this page. New acquisitions of note: Mr.Bungle (California)
and (Disco Volante). Plus there's the stuff that I got from the stoops.
Emiliana Torrini (björk soundalike), Flying Neutrinos, Irving Berlin, Isao Tomita, Matthew Sweet.
All waiting to be ripped, coded and swapped.
Recovered an hour long Paul Oakenfold Essential Mix (somewhere in Germany, the Love Parade I think.....)
that's VERY huge and quite impossible for me to trade/swap via my pathetic dial-up but will burn if requested.
            Like I said, email me.

My new favorite mp3.com talent: the alpha conspiracy | Seriously speaking, this guy knows his shit like the pros.

04 30 : Orbital releases The Altogether. More news from Loopz.

04 20 : What is mynapster and how does this change my rampant P2P activities? Does anyone have a clue to the
fate of good ole Nappie and why this is all happening? You might as well ask the earth from turning. Those poor,
uninformed, swayback corporate fatheads. Oh my. Seven hours later. I'm up and trying my darn'dest to get my files
(wavs, mp3, rips, &c.) backed-up on cd. Took me four hours, several crashes and two wasted cd-Rs; but it's well
worth it. Total audio back up (mp3 ripped @ 128 kbps) adds up to 6X730MB cds. That's a little over 4GB, innit? I
wonder what else is on my other 3GB locker. I decided not to back-up tracks I ripped at 320 kbps and the back-up
wavs to those rips. Hope my hard-drive stands whatever system glitch comes up next and if that slips past, then I'll
just rip em again if anybody wants a :fresh: copy. Oh yeah, I haven't really been paying attention to my PVD (lord of
the trance Paul Van Dyk, you tit) list, but from the peeps that I've made every now and then it's that hellion Laurie
Brewster that's keepin it real (what does that really mean?!) and well, the list alive. Here, on explizit.org
Keep an eye out for the March and April posts if you will.

more links to gizmos: CNET.com's top 10 gadget list | Velocd- is it really the best cd-RW around?

04 19 : Re-downloaded (this time I backed it up immediately) latest version Winamp 2.74, but it's still bugged and
won't play anything. I hope it's not something terribly unfixable in the system.

04 18 : (eH news!) Downloaded Hula, Maskara, Wala and How Far Will U Go from Gravis' page @ Tikbalang.com
04 15 : Ripped and burned the Gladiator Soundtrack (Lisa Gerrard + Hans Zimmer). Now I have most of LG's post
DCD work. There is news that Decca will release (or have they already?) a second cd of tracks inspired or drawn from
Gladiator, those tracks which were more Lisa's than Han's. BTW, I have ALL the DCD (Dead Can Dance) studio cds.
Ask me if you're interested in a trade, burn, rip or P2P. I'm usually up and on around 8PM-5AM Eastern Time.

01 30 : Tired of running around in the back of data alleys and wishing for a home that my files would call their own,
I went out after work and bought myself a really nice set-up. Lots of RAM and 60 hyooooge GB of storage, with DVD
and cd-R capabilites. I am SO ready for burning! All I need now is some broadband and then maybe, if I feel like it,
go Napster me an entire cd. Or two or five. This is my political statement vs. the establishment. This is my activism.

What is Napster and why are the big bad corp types and their lackeys picking on it? See Napster for all the deets.

 2000 INFO
07 10 : PRiMARY goes online. My old mp3 collection, my :sometime: source of pride. Click here to see the page.
06 22 : Lessons to be learned. I lose all 3.1 GB of my saved mp3s due to a hard drive maintenance :malfunction:
possibly due to a stoopid system cut-off (or the usual afternoon external prank-hack) , in no small way thanks to
the knuckle dragging drones of the IT (i for ignorance mofos) department. Ohno. Good thing I had the whole thing
backed-up (nyahNYAH!). Remember kids - always MANUALLY back up your data, personally. Keyword: PRIVACY, etc.
06 21 : The :long flood: is over! (Can't quite remember why this was such an exciting event...Really.)
05 11 : 400 PLUS mp3s, with recent, current favorites Chinese Burn (both of PVD's hyoogelyreal AWEsome remixes),
Chinese Burn (Lunatic Calm remix :: 9/10 ! i say), Orbital slices :: Crash & Carry, Midnight, both Impact AND old fave
Impact USA, and the oddly wistful Satan (Live in NY version). Recovered Radiohead (OK Computer), Sonic Youth
(Wish Fulfillment), Paul Hardcastle (Nineteen), and a whole lot of Tori Amos remixed by various masters Sasha +
Digweed, plus I really just have fallen into an obsession with Paul Van Dyk. (Get that? PVD, okay? PVD  :)

05 01 : Well it took me long enough, but I finally did give in and started Napstering like crazy. Sample from a
download log that I was keeping: "now napstering all Autechre, (Olive, even?), Sasha, Goldie (Inner City Life),
Aphex Twin, Massive Attack, and MORE Orbital  :aLL dAY!". And it was great! I used to come in to work and log-in at
9AM. Go out and get my caffeine buzz (another relic of the past, sorry Heavenly Cappuccino dudes) with a yummy
oversized mega-grande mocha with everything and get back to my workstation and Napster on til 7PM. Slightly under
ten full hours (well, I'd usually give under and go for lunch begrudgingly around 2... but it was ALL good!) and back
my stuff up on tape. But boy did I love that T1 like nothing else.

04 14 : More cd acquisitions at this point. Looks rather eclectic. Huge addition to my Dead Can Dance collection!
I really rather miss having a cd recyclery close by, one where I could just drop by and spend a few hours browsing
over a wide selection of other people's discards. I've gotten quite a few good ones this way: Underworld (Beaucoup
Fish), Sixteen Horsepower (Low Estate), Curve (Come Clean), and of course, Diana Krall. Check out my old cdpage
(updates soon!) to see where I left off, before finding that Napstering was the better alternative to buying stuff from
stores. Yeah, insert anti-establishment rant here, yeah yeah.

 my MYPLAY.com blues
Right before they turned coat and became corp, Myplay used to be a half-way decent service. Bad snooping NOT
allowed in the premises. I'm pretty sure that I had more than the paltry left-overs in my original locker, but there is
this one really kick ass track that I'm missing. Either the copyright police got in and cleaned it out or bad server
connection somewhere. Is there really a choice there? If you haven't the storage and would like to keep your mp3s
somewhere, try their service out. It'll prolly be all right as long as you have that snazzy T1 up and running. Otherwise
don't bother. On any pansy dial-up it's a huge waste of time.

Good mp3.com for what ails ya
There's store-bought music and there's the stuff that you do by yourself. Which is why I like MP3.com a lot. I may
sound like a grizzled veteran of some bygone 8-track tape era, but the truth is the only time I saw one of those
dated gizmos was at a funky wayside garage sale in Iowa (I was roadie-ing for this band, see) where the lady
manning the stalls offered it to me for :a very good price: What the?! I didn't need any dino-crap, so I left off.
Maybe if it were a brownie camera I'd think about it. But anyway, back to mp3 talk.

I did a little webwork for them awhile ago and they gave me this kew DJ bag (hmm, free stuff!) that I now use as a
satchel for burned cds and sketches for cd cover art. But the real reason why I plug their site much is because I truly
believe in their service. Giving unsigned artists a chance and space to expose themselves to the world is a laudable
effort, and in cases where it works, it works rather well for those groups who have gained a working fanbase from their
sites on MP3.com. I check them out every once in a while and these are a few of my favorites:

Access Denied | DJ Tricky | Hydrochloride | Paul Cooper | Raveing Lunatics
  S.A. Fred | Slowing Room  | SuperPope | U:tama | Volatile

The first ever mp3 I downloaded was from them, and I still listen to it. But don't let me tell you what to do.
There's ton's more, all categorized in an easy to follow menu. Experiment with what you like and check the site out.
